Pick a sample, set α and read the prediction set: confident, ambiguous or abstaining. Then follow each panel gene across MoTrPAC, the rat BodyMap and GTEx, build the panel gene by gene, and price a guarantee in animals.
The tissue card
Pick a sample and ask the fingerprint what it is; the set of tissues it returns is the answer it is willing to guarantee: one tissue is a confident call, several is ambiguity, none is abstention. Try a BodyMap thymus or uterus, organs the fingerprint has never seen, and a GTEx heart.
The gene explorer
One gene across the three datasets: log2 CPM by tissue in MoTrPAC (sex as marker shape), by organ and age in the rat BodyMap, and log2 TPM by tissue in GTEx through its 1:1 ortholog. Start with Pgk2, the testis marker not yet expressed in two-week-old rats, and Gnb3, the heart marker that points at the ovary in human.
The panel builder
The round-robin selector takes the best remaining gene of each tissue in turn. Slide k along the evaluated grid and watch which tissues have a marker yet: at k = 10 only the first ten tissues in class order do, which is why accuracy jumps between 10 and 15.
The animals-needed calculator
A certificate that a panel makes at most α errors, with confidence 1 − δ, needs zero calibration errors on n ≥ ln δ / ln(1 − α) calibration animals: the guarantee is paid for in animals, not genes.
